When I see beautiful bird photos, I always imagine the photographer going out to a national park or protected area away from civilisation and spending the day in a bird hide waiting for their chances. I don’t know when I would ever find the time for that, but luckily there is a wetlands near my house and I can sneak out there for just an hour or so when I get the chance. This is usually when everyone else is still asleep on a Saturday morning. A quick lap of the wetlands and I am often rewarded with some nice bird photos. Here is a selection of recent ones.

Baigup Wetlands has a main walking and cycling path that runs through it with the river on one side and small lakes on the other. It has another dirt path that runs around the back between houses and small trees and shrubs. This path often has a lot of small birds but they don’t stay still for long. Sometimes I get lucky and they take off just after I get them in focus.

If the smaller birds are too elusive, there are usually a few larger birds on one of the lakes.
